Entries to be sent to the above for Speech and Drama, with Cheques & Postal Orders made payable to "Blackburn Festival". accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope for the competitor"s tickets. These will be an acknowledgement of the entry, giving the date, time and ballot number for each class. Competitors should report to the class 20 minutes before the stated time of commencement of the class. (See reg. 6)

Blackburn Festival has entered through the British Federation of Festivals into an agreement with the Authors" Licensing and Collecting Society. This means that entrants do not have to obtain copyright permission for any poetry, prose or solo dramatic items performed at the Festival to a time limit of 10 minutes. Solo Dramatic pieces must be announced with the Title and Author at the time of performance to qualify for copyright indemnity and the performer must not change the words or gender of the character. Duologues and Groups are not covered by this agreement, and copyright for these items must be sought at the time of entry. The Festival Committee accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate copyright permission has been sought.

Adjudicators

Tish Nicholl LGSM, Dip CE, MSTSD, FESB

Tish Nicholl is a Fellow of the English Speaking Board, a member of the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama, a member of the British Voice Association and a member of the panel of Speech and Drama Adjudicators of the Britsh and International Federation of Festivals.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Tish is a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  She has a wide range of experience in teaching all age groups in schools, colleges and the business world.  Tish now lives in Oxfordshire and works freelance.  She is a visiting lecturer in Vocal Communications in colleges in the UK and Italy.

She also examines for the English Speaking Board (International) and was their Chief Examiner for seven years.She has travelled widely both in th UK and overseas lecturing, running workshops, examining and adjudicating and in 2007 was honoured to become Patron of "Oracy Australia Assoc".

As well as "voice over" work for advertising, Tish has televison experience as a performer and stage experience as a performer and director.  She is also a trained singer, specialising in recitals of poetry and song.

From an early age Trish took part in Festivals and well remembers how it feels to be a participant.  Now, herslef a festival organiser and adjudicator, she knows the importance of these events and welcomes the opportunities offered to performers of all ages, giving them a platform for their work and a chance to celebrate music , poetry and drama.

 

Jill O'Hare

BA Theatre Studies, LGSM, LLAM Cert FE, GODA, PGCA Hons, FLAM

Jill O'Hare trained at the Guildhall School of Speech and Drama.  She has run her own drama studio, taught drama, communication skills and A-level Theatre Studies at schools and specialist colleges.  As an experienced examiner and lecturer of the Arts she travels extensively.  Jill is a professional actress and director and enjoys playing and directing in London's West End and Fringe Theatres and for television.  As a trained singer she has performed and directed many musical shows, incliding the opera, "A Bartered Bride."

Jill is also a busy member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators for one act and full length play festivals and has a specialist interest in Youth Theatre and all Festival work.  She has recently had published two anthologies for  younger performers.  She greatly appreciates all the hard work from all concerned that creates a Festival of the Arts and so looks forward to being a small part of your festival.
